“Composer-Score-Interpreter: Shaping the interpretation of Theodore Antoniou’s piano works”
How elastic or rigid is the score? How does the performer perceive it and how does its creator? What is the degree of freedom of the performer? What are the responsibilities and challenges of a world premiere recording? What is the most efficient method of recording in the studio? Konstantinos Destounis presents the piano works of Th. Antoniou, tells us about the total experience of his collaboration with the composer and the recording of his works for solo piano, about the studying techniques that he developed through his research, and plays us selected works and excerpts on the piano.
Konstantinos Destounis holds a PhD from the Royal College of Music in London with a dissertation on ‘The solo piano works of Theodore Antoniou in the context of contemporary Greek piano repertoire: a performer’s approach’, and is a graduate of The Music Department of the University of Macedonia and of the Mozarteum. In collaboration with Th. Antoniou, he made the first world recording of the composer’s piano works, which was released by Naxos and received rave reviews from the international press. He is the winner of many international piano competitions, the most important being the ‘Grand Prix Maria Callas’ in Athens, the ‘Southern Highlands’ in Australia and the pan-European competition in Bremen. He has collaborated as a soloist with many orchestras in Greece, England, Germany, Spain, Australia and has given recitals at international festivals. He teaches piano at the University of Macedonia and the Athens Conservatory.
