Extended techniques of the flute family

In this interactive masterclass of the flute duo “a2nd” (Ana Chifu, Zacharias Tarpagkos) aimed at flutists and composers who want to get to know the extended techniques of the flute family, students will have the opportunity to attend a presentation of the different instruments of the family of the flute, the traditional techniques of performance and compositional approach, the extended techniques and notation developed and explored in the 20th and 21st centuries but also the aesthetic framework which necessitated the search in different sound paths.
In this seminar, the basic treatises of recording the modern techniques of the flute will be studied and analyzed (H.Koizumi – Technique for Contemporary Flute Music, R.Dick – The other flute, C.Levine – C.Mitropoulos – The Techniques of Flute Playing) and their presentation will be made both through these treatises and through the rich ergography (S.Sciarrino, D.Rotaru, B.Ferneyhough, T. Takemitsu, T.Murail, E.Varese, L.Berio, C.Halffter).
Composition students will have the opportunity to experiment and place this information in their own aesthetic context through the composition of pieces that they will work on with the composition professors and the duo over time. The conclusion of this masterclass cycle will be the concert presentation of the pieces for flute duo.
