Pitch and Timbre Space in Composition, Lecture by Juhani T Vesikkala Wittmacher

This lecture introduces the use of acoustic sounds that are perceptually between noise and pitch. Examples from recent repertoire and Vesikkala’s compositions show compositional strategies for structuring music when using noisy timbres. I discuss how to integrate timbre with pitch in a piece where the presence of pitch is secondary and the overall structure is timbre-based.
