On Thursday, March 2, 2023, at 19:45-21:00, a lecture by Alkinoos Ioannidis will be held at the foyer of the School of Music Studies of the A.U.Th., as part of the series of events “Varieties 2022-2023”. The lecture is entitled: “The word and the note“.
The word and the note: What is in a song? How can tradition and evolution serve as parallel, even synonymous concepts? When do lyrics function as sound and when do they become the bearer of meaning? What is style and what is character? What is contemporary, what is enduring, what is timeless, and what is just a waste of time? How many centuries can fit into just three minutes? This lecture is about the nature of Song. We will search for the source, follow the emanating streams, and seek the place where they coalesce. We will discuss the obvious and the intangible elements that make it up; the way it can flood our very being; how it succeeds or fails at shaping our extrinsic and intrinsic existence. And we will try to understand how this ancient, sacred art, becomes the breath of humanity through the centuries.
Alkinoos Ioannidis is a singer-songwriter. He also composes music for theater, dance and cinema, while his symphonic and choral work has been performed both in Greece and abroad.
